School’s Out Early Tomorrow
SB School District will have a state required minimum day Friday, January
18. In light of recent gang activity, district and school administrators
are working closely with law enforcement and probation to ensure an increased
presence on campus, in nearby neighborhoods, and throughout the community.

Brooks China Documentary Wins Awards
Brooks Institute’s international documentary class production of
China: A Will to Rise received the First Place Documentary Film
award at the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival Collegiate Competition
and Award of Excellence at The Accolade Film Awards that recognizes outstanding

Fiscal Year 2006-07 Best Ever
The SB County Film Commission reported a countywide economic impact of
$20 million, with a ripple down effect of $51 million. Filming activity
rose by nearly $8 million from 2005-06, due to three big features. The
recently released There Will Be Blood, starring Daniel Day Lewis
and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, shot for three days on Jalama Road
in Lompoc. Other features were Quentin Tarentino's Death Proof,
Pirates of the Caribbean III, and Let's Go To Prison.

New 3D Cousteau Film
Francois and Jean-Jacques Mantello, and SB’s Jean-Michel Cousteau
joined forces on the new 3D film DOLPHINS AND WHALES 3D: Tribes of
the Ocean, which will be released at IMAX Theatres beginning February
15. The documentary offers a close encounter in 3D with small and giant

Jennie Reinish and Louise Palanker co-directed and produced the documentary

Third Year SBIFF Student
For the third year in a row Jody Nelson has a film in the “Student
